Students from grades I to III of our school, organized into two teams, participated in the eleventh “Europe and Me” competition, as part of the European Diary.
The competition ended on February 15, 2021, organized by the European Union Delegation in Serbia, and voting will last until March 5, 2021. A total of fifteen works will be awarded, with three winners in each category (photo works, blog text, video formats, comic/caricature, multimedia format). This year’s competition themes were: EU and Serbia, EU in your everyday life, Myths about the EU, Human Rights, and Environment and Climate Change.
Our students were organized into two teams and worked on the theme Environment and Climate Change.
The first team, consisting of: Apostolović Nikola (II1), Mišić Milica (III1) and Danica Stojanović (II1), addressed this topic through a social experiment and research on environmental protection. The students noted very important conclusions in their work description. What is visible and conceptually and terminologically mapped can be more easily influenced. They say that public attention has been far more sensitive to the relationship between humans and nature and the environment since the concept of the hole in the ozone layer was noticed and named. We were interested in the extent and manner in which fellow citizens are interested in environmental pollution problems and modes of action that would reduce and stop this. This motivated us to conduct a small social experiment and ask passersby near the school several questions on this topic. The results were somewhat surprising. The respondents were very interested in the topic and most agreed that urgent action is needed to stop the harmful impact of humans on the environment. The results we obtained encourage us to continue the research and to process and interpret the results more seriously methodologically.
The second team, consisting of: Aleksa Skendžić (III1), Delić Luka (III1) and Luka Papić (III1), addressed the theme Environment and Climate Change, with special emphasis on climate change and human impact in this regard. Climate change affects all of us. Are they a consequence of human activity? We cannot claim this with certainty. That humans have endangered the natural environment and accelerated the extinction of many animal and plant species, on the contrary, is quite evident. It is important that the irresponsible attitude of us humans toward nature, which also affects the survival of the human species, is not irreversible. Now, when it is not yet too late to take responsibility and concrete steps in protecting the environment we live in from ourselves, we have no excuse not to do so. What will we do, and what won’t we do? That depends on our awareness.
You can find our students’ works on the European Diary website https://www.evropskidnevnik.rs/video-kategorija/
through which you can also vote for them. It is very important that we support our students’ initiative to bring about necessary changes at the local level, which will thereby also influence global changes.
